ในป่าชายเลนเราจะพบสัตว์และพืชที่มีลักษณะแปลกแตกต่างจากระบบนิเวศแบบอื่น ๆ เนื่องจากสัตว์และพืชเหล่านี้จะต้องมีการปรับตัวให้สามารถอยู่อาศัยในสภาพแวดล้อมที่ได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำขึ้น น้ำลง
และการเปลี่ยนแปลงระดับความเค็มของน้ำอยู่ตลอดเวลา

 

 

 

Animals and plants that thrive in mangrove forest environments are often different from those in other ecosystems due to the reason that these biological species need to adjust themselves to a marine Eco zone that is affected by ebb and flow tides, and the constantly-changing saline conditions of waters.

นกที่อาศัยหากินในป่าชายเลนสามารถแบ่งกลุ่มตามชนิดอาหาร คือ นกกินแมลง เช่น นกกระจ้อย-ป่าโกงกาง นกกินหอยและปู เช่น นกอีก๋อย นกหัวโต กลุ่มนกกินปลา เช่น นกกินเปี้ยว นกกระเต็นอกขาว

 

One way to classify birds inhabiting a mangrove forest is by determining what they feed on.
A common insectivorous bird is flyeater; shellfish and crab-eaters whimbrel and crab plover; fish-eaters include collared kingfisher and white-throated kingfisher.

ตัวผู้จะมีสีสันสดใส ก้ามข้างหนึ่งมีขนาดใหญ่เพื่อทำหน้าที่ปกป้องอาณาเขต ส่วนตัวเมียจะมีสีสันไม่ฉูดฉาดและก้ามขนาดเท่ากัน ปูก้ามดาบจะกินซากอินทรีย์ในตะกอนดินเป็นอาหาร

 

The male of these crab species has vivid colors and holds one claw, always much larger than the other, presumably for territorial defense. The female has dull color and two relatively smaller, equal claws. They feed on algae and other organic matter in water-covered muddy burrows.

Bats feed on nectar in the flowers of Lam Phu (Sonneratiacaseolaris), and Lam Phaen (Sonnertia ovate), whose action plays a role in pollination for this group of mangrove plants.

      Mollusks

 

หอยมักจะอาศัยอยู่ตามดินเลน รากพืช และลำต้นของไม้ป่าชายเลน หอยที่อาศัยอยู่ตามกิ่งใบ และรากค้ำยัน เช่น หอยน้ำพริก หอยจุ๊บแจง หอยแครง หอยนางรม และหอยแมลงภู่

 

Mollusks are soft-bodied invertebrates enclosed in a hard shell or shells, and often found in muddy burrows, plant roots, and stalks of mangrove plants. Some of the mollusks living on stalks, leaves, and aerial roots include nerite, cerith, blood cockle, oyster, and green mussel.

 

 

 

 

 

ปลาตีน

      Mudskipper

 

เป็นปลาที่มีการปรับตัวคล้ายสัตว์ครึ่งบกครึ่งน้ำ ทำให้สามารถทนต่อสภาวะขาดน้ำได้ดี เรามักพบปลาตีนออกหากินบนผืนเลนยามน้ำลง

 

This regular denizen of mangrove forest is really a fish that adapts to living like an amphibian, developing toleration of receding water at low ebb tide. Mudskippers are often found feeding on mud flats and jumping about for cover when disturbed.

      Mangrove Crab

 

ปูแสมจะกินซากใบไม้ สาหร่าย การกัดกินของปูเป็นตัวเร่งให้ซากพืชย่อยสลายเร็วขึ้น

 

Mangrove crab feed on leave little and algae, whose feeding action helps speed up the decaying of plant matter.

 

แม่หอบ

      Mud Lobster

 

ลักษณะคล้ายกุ้งแต่ส่วนท้องมีขนาดใหญ่ แม่หอบจะขุดรูอาศัยอยู่ตามพื้นป่าชายเลน โดยขนดินขึ้นมากองทับถมกันเป็นเนินสูง เป็นที่มาของชื่อ “แม่หอบ” นั่นเอง

 

A lobster-like crustacean but with a larger stomach, it has a nighttime habit of digging burrows in deep sediments to bring up organic matter that eventually form high mounds, which action helps to recycle nutrients and benefit other animal species in a mangrove forest ecosystem. Its Thai name “Mae Hop” (the Carrier) is an apt description of the behavior.

      Crab-eating macaque

 

อาศัยหากินบนพื้นเลน ลิงแสมไม่ได้กินกล้วยแต่จะกินปูและหอยสองฝา

 

Crab-eating macaque also called long-tailed macaque, is a primate native to Southeast Asia, often seen foraging on tidal mud flats for crabs and bivalves rather than the customary banana.

      Otter

 

นาก เป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม สามารถว่ายน้ำได้คล่องแคล่วมาก อาหารของนากคือปลาและสัตว์น้ำขนาดเล็ก ส่วนใหญ่จะอยู่รวมกันเป็นฝูง มักขุดรูอยู่ริมตลิ่ง

 

Otters are any of the aquatic, web-footed, carnivorous mammals in the weasel family Mustelidae, having terrified skill at swimming. Otters eat fish and a variety of small aquatic animals. A social animal, they often live in groups and burrow in holes they dig by a bank.
